A green roof is a plant-covered roof cover, with growing, live flora taking the place of bare membrane, gravel, shingles or tiles.
Green roofs are a healthy alternative to traditional roofs and provide a number of benefits over conventional roofing, including a longer lifetime as a roof. The roofs save on heating and cooling costs, and provide a better sound barrier than conventional roofs. Aesthetically, if you choose what’s called an intensive green roof, you’ll have a high-tech rooftop garden and outdoor space that can include architectural details such as waterfalls, ponds, and gazebos.
